More Tuscany, Toscana - Italia

Sorrento - Italia

Sorrento is a favorite place of mine, I've used it as a jumping off point when visiting the area around the Bay of Naples -- Napoli, Pompei, Ercolano, Positano, Amalfi, and of course, the Islola di Capri.

After getting to the Napoli Centrale (Primary Train Station in Naples) stay underground and connect to the Circumvesuviana commuter train. The Circumvesuviana will take you through some gritty areas of Naples, down the coast, past Mt Vesuvius, and finally terminating at the train station in Sorrento.

At the station make sure you visit the grumpy shop keepers at the bottom of the steps -- they'll sell you train passes when the booth upstairs closes for the day and are also the ones to see when you need bus passes to ride the public transit bus, SITA (Unico Campania), to Positano and Amalfi (Only about 3 euros for the most fantastic and nervewracking bus ride you'll ever take).

If you go into the town of Sorrento make sure you go to the pasticceria (bakery) about half way between the station and the main square, Piazza Tasso, and buy a couple of arancini (fried rice balls) filled with melted cheeses and specks of herbs and meat. Delish!

Oh, and be sure not to miss some of the best sfogliatelle in the world (of course, since sfogliatelle are d'napoli!) and if you need a nice place to stay at a reasonable price go check out Hotel Del Corso centrally located and just down the block from Piazza Tasso.

Okay, you're probably tired of Italy by now so I'll move on to some other place ... I promise!

For how long? Well, that's the real question.

See ya!
